Modeling | Texturing | Lighting Maya | Substance Painter | NukeAs my first major 3D project of my sophomore year, I challenged myself to create a photorealistic "Hero Asset." My goal was to hone my skills across the entire production pipeline, specifically focusing on advanced hard surface modeling, texturing, and mechanical rigging.
Look Development & Texturing
To achieve a realistic, weathered aesthetic, I conducted extensive reference research into material aging. I focused on capturing the nuances of "lived-in" details, such as paint delamination, oxidation (rust), and directional surface scratches. By layering these details in Substance Painter, I was able to tell a story of the asset’s history through its wear patterns.
Modeling & Mechanical Rigging
A key part of this project was modeling every individual component to understand the bicycle’s physical mechanics. This deep dive into the asset's anatomy was essential for the Rigging phase. By understanding how the chain, gears, and braking systems interact in reality, I was able to build a functional, production-ready rig that moves with mechanical accuracy.
